Brian Baca is a lifelong New Mexican, educator, and public servant who proudly represents House District 8 in the New Mexico House of Representatives. A native of Los Lunas, he was appointed to the Legislature in January 2022 after being selected by the Valencia County Board of Commissioners to succeed Representative Alonzo Baldonado. Since then, Baca has focused on advancing policies that strengthen education, support families, promote fiscal responsibility, and improve opportunities for communities across New Mexico.
Baca's career in public service began in education, where he has spent more than three decades serving students, teachers, and families. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from the University of New Mexico, he worked as a classroom teacher, gifted education instructor, assistant principal, special education director, director of personnel, assistant superintendent, and deputy superintendent for Los Lunas Public Schools. His extensive experience in educational leadership has given him firsthand knowledge of the challenges facing New Mexico's schools and a deep commitment to improving student outcomes.
As a state representative, Baca brings a practical, solutions-oriented approach to policymaking, drawing on decades of experience managing educational programs and working with local communities. He remains dedicated to serving the people of House District 8 with integrity, accountability, and a focus on delivering results that strengthen New Mexico's future.
